Questions About The Custom Bridal
Design Process
How long does it take to make a custom wedding dress?
We prefer to have 6 months to complete the custom bridal design process. We recommend you order your custom bridal gown 6 months to a full year before your wedding date, so you can enjoy the full stress-free experience and make lasting memories in the process.
That said, we can accommodate any wedding date that is 4 months out or further. Learn more about our custom bridal design process HERE.
How should I prepare for my consultation?
Your consultation is your opportunity to share your style, taste, and dreams for your perfect dress. Feel free to bring any pieces of inspiration you have collected to help us visualize your perfect dress. You can bring along magazine photos, show us your Pinterest board, and any other ideas you have! Your Designer will sketch your gown while you’re visiting and help you choose the fine design details, such as colors, laces, and fabrics that fit your vision, body, and style.
Not sure what style will look best on you? Don’t worry! Our experienced wedding dress designers will give you expert advice. And, if your consultation is in our studio, we even have sample gowns that you can try on. This consultation is all about you and your vision – we’re here to bring it to life! Your consultation will take approximately 1 hour.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes! You can book your virtual appointment on our scheduling page or by calling our studio: 316-706-2914. Learn more about our Virtual Design Process HERE.
How do you ensure my dress will fit?
Our custom wedding dress design process includes a series of design checkpoints. The first will be a lining or “mock-up” fitting.
Virtual Vanya Brides: we will ship your lining to you, and your designer will virtually help you and a friend pin and mark any adjustments.
Local Vanya Brides: we will meet with you in our studio.
During this fitting session, we will confirm the desired fit and design features. This is the point where we ensure the fit is perfect for your silhouette. We can also make changes to the design features and style lines, however, there may be an additional charge for design changes.
*Please note that once the garment is cut in the selected fabric, very few (if any) changes can be made to design and style features.
We do not charge for alterations unless your measurements have changed after the final fitting, in which case standard alteration rates would apply. For more information about our custom wedding dress design process, click here.
We won’t let your dress leave our studio until you are 110% happy with it!!!
What if my size or weight changes after I order my gown?
The garment will be custom-made according to the initial measurements taken or provided. If there is an active weight loss plan in place or if a pregnancy occurs, it is necessary to notify our designers as soon as possible. If the garment needs to be significantly altered due to weight loss or gain after the third fitting, there may be an additional charge. If you have notified us regarding any significant measurement changes at least two weeks prior to your third fitting, this additional charge may be waived.
We want you to feel beautiful and loved during our custom bridal design process, and we will work with you to ensure this!
How does “Made to Measure” work?
“Made-to-Measure” means we will take your custom measurements at your initial consultation. Then, our expert designers will sew your gown from the ground up, creating a dress tailored for your figure.
Because you will have several fitting sessions, don’t stress if your size fluctuates throughout the process. At each fitting, we will re-measure, pin, and adjust the gown to fit your body. For out-of-state brides, we have a similar process, only virtually. (See our full process page here).
How often can I check in on my gown?
We will schedule four fittings with you where you will meet with your designer and see the creation process of your dream gown. We’ll include you every step of the way! Your designer will send you images, too, so you’ll always know just how your gown is coming along—just make sure your future hubby isn’t around!
We usually schedule these fittings or virtual checkpoints about 4-6 weeks apart. Some of our more elaborate designs will require more than 4 fittings, and we will schedule those at no additional charge.
